I could have titled this entry "From family album," but hey, let's be honest: April 1958 was a long time ago! This photograph, taken on North Beach at Deception Pass State Park, features me (left, age 6) and an unknown friend/relative striking a pose in the midst of our beach adventure. I'm not sure how I came to have custody of this photo, but when I found it I scanned it immediately. Like many Anacortesans, our family spent many days at Deception Pass, including "swims" at Lake Cranberry (More like "thrashabouts." I ultimately learned to swim in a pool at age 10). Another favorite family hangout was Sunset Beach at Washington Park. Fewer people. Closer to home. Today I choose the Sunset option most of the time, but Deception Pass is definitely one of the most beautiful public parks in the Northwest. Visit now to avoid the spring rush.
