Taking the camera for aerial tour

I often note that it takes a boat or airplane "tour" to fully appreciate the wonder of this little corner of the world we call home. On Thursday I took a flight with a friend, flying this Cessna out of North Whidbey Island. In coming days I'll be sharing images from the air, ranging from Deception Pass to the Skyline Marina and the Swinomish Slough. Except for one bug-splat incident on my camera lens, things went well. Will have to do it again, sooner than later.

I've said before, it's difficult to fully appreciate the beauty of this area without seeing it by sea and air. This photograph is just a small section of an aerial photograph taken in 1972. Visible are most of Fidalgo, Guemes and the San Juan islands. This photograph is on display at the Commercial Avenue office of the Port of Anacortes. I've see a similar beauty in the foyer of the administration building at Tesoro refinery (the refinery on the tip of March's Point in the center of this photo).
