Sixty years later, a diploma for Funk

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012063169_funk09.html
Click on the link above to read a wonderful story about 88-year-old Anacortes native Wallie Funk, who will receive his UW diploma Thursday, June 10 after a six-decade period of graduation "limbo." I took the photo above in 2008 when the UW Department of Communication inducted Wallie into its Alumni Hall of Fame. It was this event that led to investigation of transcripts and announcement that Wallie had qualified for a diploma he never received. As noted, check out Time reporter Carly Flandro's article in today's issue of the Seattle Times. The feature also includes a great portrait by Times photographer Ellen M. Banner.

Sonny Sixkiller visits Skagit

A pleasant surprise for many attending the 2010 Tulip Festival Parade in LaConner on April 11 was a sighting of legendary UW quarterback Sonny Sixiller (left, above). In 1970 Sixkiller took a disastrous Husky football team which only won one game during the '69 season and made them winners. To this day he still holds several Husky passing records set more than 35 years ago. Now a color analyst for FSN Northwest, Sixkiller remains a big part of UW activities. In 1985, Sixkiller was bestowed his highest honor by being inducted into the UW football Hall of Fame.
