It was a sentimental journey this week when I joined this group of community journalism "characters" in beautiful downtown Coupeville. Instigator of the gathering was Wallie Funk, ex-newspaper publisher and one-time employer of several in attendance. Pictured are Frank Garred, former publisher of the Port Townsend Leader; Kasia Pierzga, publisher of the Whidbey Examiner; Funk; Scott Wilson, publisher of the Leader; Fred Obee, Editor of the Leader. Later, while our friends waited for a temporarily disabled ferry at Keystone, Wallie and I connected with Mary Obee as well. It was a great afternoon among friends, without the pressures of ringing telephones and looming deadlines.
